Session 8595: Evaluating Alternatives for Modernization: To SaaS or not to SaaS

Track: Leading Change

Primary Presenter: Joseph A Moreau [Vice Chancellor of Technology - Foothill-De Anza Community College District]

Description:

There is a convergence of mounting pressures impacting Higher Education today: the intense need for remote learning and administration, an IT skills shortage, a proliferation of new technologies and delivery options, and an increase in cybercrime, to name a few. Cloud transformation is a critical step in modernizing your institution and can alleviate those pressures. Moving to the cloud increases efficiency, reduces administrative complexity, and decreases total cost of ownership, all while maximizing your long-term value, improving resiliency, and offering continuous access to new functionality. You get the confidence that your data is secure and accessible to the latest software without the worries of time-consuming and expensive upgrades. Join a discussion between two former HEUG Presidents, Joseph Moreau Vice Chancellor at Technology at Foothill-De Anza Community College and Kari Branjord, Senior Vice President of Digital Transformation at Ellucian, on the benefits of SaaS. Specifically, they will address these questions: What is the right digital transformation path for your institution? What is the value of staying on-premises versus moving to managed cloud versus moving to SaaS? What are the biggest myths about moving to SaaS that can be debunked? What criteria should you consider when looking for a partner to support you in your SaaS journey?
2
Session 8660: Keeping Your Foot On The Pedal Of Disruption

Track: Leading Change

Primary Presenter: Mario Berry [Vice President of Information Technology - Texas Southern University]

Description:

The pandemic created severe short-term financial and operational challenges for many institutions, while also shining a bright spotlight on demographic, financial and technology trends impacting Higher Education. Looking beyond the pandemic, institutions are evaluating what needs to change in their operating models and how they can continue to deploy swift decision-making and investment processes. Speed to innovation is critical to helping institutions manage – and thrive – during periods of future unpredictability. Mario Berry, VP for IT from Texas Southern University, and Ellucian Partners will share insights on the role of Cloud technology and lessons learned from the past year-plus. Questions to be addressed include: What does disruptive innovation mean for an institution? How can presidents, CIOs, business officers, and academic leaders work together to make strategic choices? How do they remain flexible in an ever-changing environment? How have cloud solutions helped institutions respond to challenges?

Session 8787: Go-Begin! A story of ERP/HCM in Oracle Cloud, and Boise State’s most recent chapter in its digital transformation

Track: Human Capital Management (HCM)

Primary Presenter: Jason Fairman [Project Manager - Boise State University]

Description:

The journey with Oracle Cloud is unique for every organization. It is never without its trials, but it’s also not without its triumphs! Boise State University has seen its share of both, and now finds itself as a forerunner in higher education – a true role model as a “cross-pillar” ERP and HCM Oracle Cloud customer. The recent HCM “Go Live” celebration, while cathartic and well deserved, is really more aptly named the “Go Begin” celebration! After all, this is when things really start – using the newly designed processes and tools – managing the institution through more efficient and effective back office functions to drive better institutional outcomes. In this panel discussion, hear from Boise State as they tell their story of Cloud transformation – from PeopleSoft to Oracle Cloud, first to ERP and then to HCM. Additionally, gain insights from their consulting partner Baker Tilly on key considerations for success in implementing Oracle Cloud in Higher Education – from rigorous change management, campus involvement, unifying process design, tight project management and ultimately sustainability and governance.
