Getting Started with Data Migration Workbench for Financial Aid and Student Financials (Part 1)

Track: Technical and Reporting

Session Number: 10775
Date: Wed, Mar 6th, 2024
Time: 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Description:

The University of Missouri System has taken advantage of Oracle's Data Migration Workbench (DMW) to migrate setup across instances, back up setup in development prior to refreshes, and even to delete unwanted setup. In this 2-part presentation we'll look at how to set up DMW for use in your instances.

In Part 1, we'll look at what DMW is and how to set up security and file locations. Then we'll dive into how to build Application Data Set Definitions (ADS), which define the structure of the data you're migrating. We'll also talk about how to approach ADS Design and best practices for managing ADS.

In Part 2, we'll look at how to build relationships between ADS, scenarios where you might want to build relationships, and what to watch for when using relationships in your data migrations. Finally, we'll step through building a project and migrating it across instance.

Along the way in both parts, we'll talk about lessons learned and best practices we've implemented. While the context of the presentation will be Financial Aid and Student Financials, the lessons can be applied to anyone interested in using Data Migration Workbench.

This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Part 2 is session #10948.
