An Updated Version of Michigan State’s Fluid-based Advising Appointment System
Track: Student Information System (SIS)
Session Number: 9673
Date: Mon, Feb 27th, 2023
Time: 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Description:
Michigan State has updated its Fluid-based advising appointment system, improving it for students and academic support units, and embedding it with the new student orientation process for our 11,000 new undergraduate students this past fall. We will present the new features implemented since its launch in Fall 2020, including such things as group advising appointment capabilities and advisor configurations. Technical staff will be interested to learn how we leverage rest APIs and Integration Broker with Mulesoft. Student/advisor calendars are kept in sync with these scheduled individual and group appointments thanks to a separate Mulesoft and Office365 API. Lastly, we will also share how we leverage Mulesoft for email communications throughout the appointment process.

Tell us about you!: I have been a student of higher education processes and practices since the early 1990s, working in a variety of HE settings in the US and overseas. My first engagement with Campus Solutions and the HEUG was in 2009, when serving as a co-functional lead for the student records module, when Ohio University implemented 9.0. Now, at Michigan State University, I am the functional lead of a post-SIS project, Transition and Operations team.
This team is charged with moving MSU to a more steady state after our successful implementation of Campus Solutions 9.2. We liaise with former project team members, their home offices, and with campus stakeholders. We are working to review, prioritize, and improve processes, expand knowledge and capacity in our technical and functional ranks, and help the end users in their day-to-day use of the system.
My educational background includes master and doctoral degrees, both in higher education administration.
