Agenda
The Residency Riddle - Using hidden requirements in the Academic Advisement Report
Track: Student Information System (SIS)
Session Number: 9652
Date: Wed, Mar 1st, 2023
Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Description:
Degree requirements can sometimes sound like riddles - After 90 units completed, complete 24 more units, in 2 terms unless one term is summer, if so that term must be at least 6 units....unless they study abroad....At UC Berkeley we needed to track completion of our residency requirement in the advisement report, without any modifications. We needed types of units to be counted in a specific order up to a set number before we could start counting units towards the requirement. Using all delivered functionality we were able to tell the advisement report what order units needed to be counted consistently and validate that the number of terms was reached using query. Learn how we solved this riddle leveraging hidden requirements and student groups. Tell us about you!: I joined UC Berkeley in 2015 during their SIS replacement project as a degree audit programmer. Over the years I've built out and maintained the Academic Advisement Report for all undergraduate majors and minors as well as supporting Graduate and Law report programing. I maintain advisor assignments for the university in addition to implementing and supporting the use of HighPoint's Degree Planner. I champion delivered functionality whenever possible, leveraging Page and Field Configurator and navigation collections to streamline business processes.
