What do you mean this isn't an IT project?: Establishing effective executive sponsorship

Track: Leading Change

Session Number: 9619
Date: Wed, Mar 1st, 2023
Time: 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Description:

All projects – from small-scale technology implementations to large, university-wide transformation initiatives – require strong project governance, and more specifically effective executive-level sponsorship. For many projects, particularly IT related ones, a university’s CIO or Chief Technology officer, or their designee, often serves in this capacity. In this session, we will share a different model that is being used to guide the implementation of a new cloud-based student information system at Washington University in St. Louis. The session will focus on best practices in terms of establishing project governance structures, with a specific emphasis on sponsor characteristics, role preparation, and ongoing support needs. The university's Provost and Associate Provost will present.
