Awakening a Sleeping Giant: The story of the new short course system at the University of Witwatersrand

Track: Student Information System (SIS)

Session Number: 9687
Date: Wed, Mar 1st, 2023
Time: 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Description:

Short courses (SC) are the third revenue stream at the University of Witwatersrand. All offered short courses are managed and administered in the E-Business Suite system. The SC modules are completely customized and integrated with the Account Receivables system for financial transaction management. Through the years, the SC system has brought about so many challenges and problems for its users that the university finally decided to look for solutions that would mitigate all these issues. The process had just run for a year when I was employed as a "short course consultant" to aid in the new short course implementation process. Today, the project has gone live, and we are currently training users on how the system works. With this presentation, I intend to share the exciting and challenging journey of this project. The story resembles to that of a "sleeping giant," i.e., "the short course programs," the university's third revenue stream. Hence, I consider it a “sleeping giant”. The current presentation is about the new features that have "awaken the sleeping giant” and have brought excitement to the university's short course community.
