Our Journey to a Better Fluid Class Search
Track: Technical and Reporting
Session Number: 9765
Date: Tue, Feb 28th, 2023
Time: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Description:
The new fluid class search experience is a great improvement for students. But how can we make it better? This session explores Grand Rapids Community College’s journey over the last few years to improve the class registration experience for our students. We will dive into how we made multiple changes for our students such as how we:
- Update class statuses based on last date to enroll
-Provide fluid class search as a “community” publicly facing option
-Allow advanced search based on campus location selection
-Add custom textbook information to integrate with our bookstore provider
-Display pop student information to gather survey results and display alerts to students
We will explore how we utilized “configuration vs. customization” using Event Mapping and some of the pitfalls we encountered while making these enhancements for our students.
