The role of subject matter experts in workplace learning

Track: Project and Change Management (PCM)

Session Number: 9759
Date: Mon, Feb 27th, 2023
Time: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Description:

As institutions of higher learning face steeper budget cuts year on end, they are left with having to decide where costs can be cut. Research shows that one of the first areas where costs are cut are in the areas of training, staff development and end user support. However, research also shows that in a fast-paced, technologically changing environment, staff training and development are imperative for successful administration. These budget cuts have required leaders to manage change and think innovatively so that staff can still be supported. This presentation explores the value that Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) can play in environments where training and support budgets are limited. The presentation looks at ideas, shared experiences and the 'train the trainer" approaches as tools for effective training mechanisms, using SMEs. The session will also look at learning experiences of other institutions  and positive and negatives and learning experiences of colleagues using SMEs.
