Description:

The University of Arizona created a bolt-on, customized online probation contract to support retention efforts. The modification was aimed at increasing probationary students’ awareness of their academic plight by providing them with critical information regarding their academic standing in a personalized format. These probation contracts can be created manually by academic advisors during an advising session or generated automatically when students access the Student Center. College coordinators are also able to set default messaging, recommendations, and stipulations so students receive a contract that reflects the unique standards of their program. Aside from increasing student awareness of academic probation requirements, the online contracts provide a standardized university-wide format and allow for improved documentation and tracking of students on probation. These retention initiatives are further augmented by the use of service indicators and 3C comments.
